Psych... what is it??

Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and its function, especially those affecting behavior in a given context. Basically this means its the study of behavior in certain situations. There are many different fields of psychology.  They are Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Experimental Psychology, School Psychology, Educational Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Biological Psychology, Health Psychology, Social/Personality Psychology, Industrial/ Organizational Psychology, Forensic Psychology, and Human Factors Psychology.

Clinical Psychology deals with the assessment and treatment of mental illness and disabilities.  For example if you were diagnosed with a certain type of phobia they would be the people who would work with you to overcome that fear.
Counseling Psychology is more of a therapy type of psychology.  They would deal with things such as family problems and problems at work.
Experimental Psychology is a field where you really just study the basic psychological processes.  These are just perception, cognition, and learning.
School Psychology is when the psychologists just test a student for learning disabilities and the like.
Educational Psychology is the study of issues that pertain to learning in an educational environment.
Developmental Psychology study the development of prenatal babies and the effects of parents and peers on children.
Biological Psychology study the interaction of psychology and biology.
Health Psychology the study of psychology as it pertains to health.
Social/Personality Psychology this is really two fields that are put together.  A personality psychologist deals with individual differences in a person.  While a social psychologist focus on how a person interacts with others.
Industrial/Organizational Psychology this is the application of psychology to the workplace.
Forensic Psychology  this is the type of psychology that works with the law.  They are involved with eye witness testimonies.
Human Factors Psychology is the study of people who deal with machines. Such as the pilot of a plane
Each of these fields of psychology diagnose and rehabilitate people going through problems.  The things that a psychologist will deal with really just has to do with the mind and what all goes on there.  A lot of the time it just takes a lot of observation and spending one on one time with the patient to really understand what they are going through.
